Clinical Philosophy

The Reuben Engagement Center will adhere to the following clinical philosophy:

Substance abuse and dependency are medical and psychosocial illnesses. The use of alcohol and misuse of illicit and prescribed drugs exacerbate problems in the lives of addicted persons and interferes with recovery. Addiction is an illness often masked by periods of improvement and relapse.  Withdrawal from substances can be harmful and must be evaluated medically. The safety of these individuals and society as a whole is fundamental to all clinical decisions. Safety considerations include physical safety issues, health, and basic human needs. Access should be timely and convenient and is imperative as the first step of promoting recovery. Best practices and clinical guidelines will be utilized. Every individual in the Reuben Engagement Center will be safe physically and medically. They will engage with a treatment provider working toward recovery.
